AN INTRODUCTION TO FAST

FreightScan launched its flagship product, the FS100, in November 2007. The FS100 is a small laser scanning system that creates value by automating the process of collecting measurements and calculating dimensional weight without interrupting workflow. The FAST solution is an add-on to the FS100 that creates a cargo screening process for tamper detection of a shipment as it moves through the supply chain.

As a result of the FS100’s dimming process,
an unmatched data set is created - a unique digital signature. This is sent to the FAST system along with other data to create “Package DNA”. Like a fingerprint, each piece of cargo has its own Package DNA that creates a traceable and comparable system for all cargo.

A package is scanned at the IAC’s warehouse, creating a baseline Package DNA that is stored in the FAST database. The package is scanned again at the airline’s warehouse and the FAST database compares the Package DNA obtained by the carrier's scan, with the Package DNA obtained by the IAC’s scan. Any number of changes in the Package DNA will trigger an alert. With a FAST alert, the carrier will be prompted to inspect that particular shipment.

Because FAST is an enhancement to the FS100 system, cargo companies can generate revenue from dimensional weight at the same time they are screening cargo. No other product offers a business solution while identifying elevated risk shipments.
